It’s time to go back to school! The transition of moving from the freedom of summer to the hustle and bustle of starting school can bring about feelings of anxiety and stress for many children. Leading up to the first day of school many children may experience headaches or stomach pains, cry, have temper tantrums, or become irritable or sad. While these feelings are normal for children who experience school related anxiety, it is important for parents to make sure their child goes to school. There are many ways to prepare an anxious child for the new experiences they may face with the start of a new school year. Parents should be sure to have an open conversation with their anxious child about what is making them worried, and reassure them while also reminding them to focus on the positive aspects of school starting.

Teachers, while also readying themselves for the start of a new school year, are sensitive to the fact that their students are experiencing anxiety. The teachers of Green Valley Academy are determined to make sure their returning students feel at ease in the classroom and are ready to tackle a new academic year.

Green Valley Academy offers an academic program to children throughout the Philadelphia Region, grades 3 thru 12, who are experiencing school avoidance due to anxiety.  Green Valley Academy incorporates individualized instruction with low-enrolled classes to provide a safe and nurturing environment to students. Our goal is to have our students reconnect with school and forge ahead to a successful adulthood through the power of a great education.
