Keeping Busy by Reading a Book

“Life is a book and there are a thousand pages I have not yet read” -Cassandra Clare

Due to quarantine and many parents facing challenges of juggling working from home while also being their kids’ teacher and caretaker, it stands to reason that anxiety levels are on the rise. Before the pandemic became a reality many experts on anxiety recommend that taking time to yourself to “fill up your cup” is a necessary step in keeping a healthy dynamic while we are all at home. One way to have a little “me time” is to get lost in a good book.

While school and public libraries may be physically closed, many of these libraries are providing helpful resources on how to obtain e-books, e-audiobooks, and even e-magazines! What better way to take a time out from the stress of the day than to read a little before bed. There are even ways to get your kids reading! James Dean has taken to Instagram on his petethecatofficial Instagram page to read excerpts from his best-selling Pete the Cat children’s books live to all of his followers. He is also utilizing Instagram Live to hold virtual drawing lessons for kids on how to make their favorite Pete the Cat character come to life on their sketchpads at home.

For those who reside in Chester County, the Chester County library system has been providing alternative ways to grab a good book without stepping foot through the door. The system utilizes Libby, an app that can be downloaded to both iOS and Android devices. Using your library card, Libby is an e-book and e-audiobook app that allows patrons to borrow books to download to their devices for 14 days, completely free! To stay on top of virtual events that the library is holding, they have also created a blog to keep everybody informed.

For more information on Chester County’s offerings please visit www.chescolibraries.org and to visit the blog to stay up to date on virtual library events please visit www.stayconnectedwithchescolibraries.wordpress.com

Keep reading and be stay safe!
