Teachers who can implement new and individualized curricula can focus on areas in their student’s education where they may need additional help. Curricula with an emphasis on cursive writing, penmanship, reading, science, and math is important for students who may need additional attention in any of those subjects.

Green Valley Academy staff members have recently implemented new curricula designed to reach each individual learner. Each program has been carefully selected for the need of our growing community. Handwriting Without Tears has been selected with a greater focus in cursive writing and penmanship. The Reading A-Z and Science A-Z program(s) work closely in the areas of literacy, where students learn through reading fiction and nonfiction texts on their individual reading level. It also provides students with a chance to learn through technology. Both programs align with the research-based information and guided reading levels presented by Irene Fountas and Gary Pinnell. The Fountas and Pinnell system is currently on our radar, and we are hoping to purchase it sometime soon. In the content area of math, we have improved our instruction by implementing the Saxon Math program. This curriculum is also research based, and designed by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. It is designed to reach students grades K-12 building off the foundational skills necessary to introduce pre-algebra and geometry in the upper grades. All programs give GVA staff members the data needed to drive their instruction to reach each individual student.

 

Green Valley Academy is currently working with a professional staff member who is becoming certified in the Wilson Language Program. This is a research-based intervention program that is designed to reach students grades K-12 in literacy. Wilson Language training encourages our staff members to focus on phonemic sounds in words that students continue to build on as they reach the upper-elementary/middle school grades. Other concentrations in the program include vocabulary instruction, fluency, spelling, and comprehension. Once the training has been completed, the program will begin to be implemented for the students at Green Valley Academy. Each of the new carefully selected curricula will help to better support our mission to present positive standards for the future of education.

 

Green Valley Academy offers an academic program to children throughout the Philadelphia Region, grades 3 thru 12, who are experiencing school avoidance due to anxiety.  Green Valley Academy incorporates individualized instruction with low-enrolled classes to provide a safe and nurturing environment to students. Our goal is to have our students reconnect with school and forge ahead to a successful adulthood through the power of a great
education.

Green Valley Academy – Newly Accredited Candidate Member

Green Valley Academy has been accepted as a Candidate Member of the Middle States Association of Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools.  Our school is the first of its kind to be accepted as a Candidate member of the MSA-CESS.  With this new status, GVA will benefit from all the rights and privileges of being a Member.

The MSA-CESS is a voluntary, peer-based, non-profit association that performs peer evaluation and regional accreditation of public and private schools in the Mid-Atlantic United States and certain foreign institutions of American origin that accepted by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
